Threats

th-3War in Rwanda in the 1990’s sent waves of men barging through the mountains wiping out half the mountain gorilla population. When we clear land for new buildings we are also destroying the gorillas habitat. Also diseases are a threat to gorillas. The diseases that affect humans also affect gorillas i.e., malaria. Bushmeat trade is one of the biggest threats to gorillas. Bushmeat is the killing of gorillas and turning them into meat. Bushmeat trade is also illegal. Poachers also kill gorillas for there hands. It is considered good luck in Africa to carry around gorilla hands. Gorillas are also caught in snares and other traps set for other animals. Charcoal making is also a big industry in Africa. But the charcoal makers drill through the mountains and destroy the gorilla’s habitat. There are only about 900 mountain gorillas left.th-4
